The 11 Commandments of Negotiating by David Goldwich.
We all negotiate every day, yet few people ever learn how to negotiate. Those who do usually learn the old-school, adversarial approach that is only useful in a one-off negotiation where you will never see the other party again. However, such transactions are becoming increasingly rare because most of us deal with the same people repeatedly—our spouses and children, our friends and colleagues, our customers and bosses. We need to achieve successful results for ourselves while maintaining healthy relationships with our negotiating partners. In today’s interconnected world, a win-win outcome is fast becoming the only acceptable result.
Most negotiations will never result in a win-win outcome because of certain common negotiation mistakes and misconceptions. David Goldwich will review some of the most important negotiating principles, presented with memorable stories, demos, and humor. Laugh, learn, and have fun – everyone will walk away with a few negotiating tips as well. These tips will make you a more confident negotiator and will save and make you money for the rest of your life.
In this interactive session David will show you
- the real point at which the negotiation process begins
- how to uncover hidden interests
- negotiating alchemy that you can leverage to create massive value
- secrets of building a powerful Plan B
- how to make and demand concessions
- the problem with compromise and a better way to reach agreement
- the best ways to give or respond to an ultimatum
- why you really want to get a no
- and much more!
About the Speaker:
David Goldwich is a reformed lawyer who teaches people how to become more influential, compelling, and irresistibly persuasive as they share their message with the world. He has MBA and JD degrees and practiced law in the United States for more than ten years, arguing before judges and political, government, and community bodies. He knows how to persuade the toughest audiences. David speaks internationally and conducts workshops in negotiation, persuasive business presentations, developing confidence and assertiveness, and storytelling for leaders and sales professionals. He also guides clients through the process of rewriting their inner story to bring about transformational change.
Recognizing that lawyers perpetuate rather than solve problems, David began lecturing and training in 1995. He has taught at the tertiary level in the USA, and at Singapore Management University and Ann Polytechnic in Singapore. An engaging and provocative speaker, David uses humor and stories gathered from his own experience as a lawyer, businessman, and father to help people reach breakthrough changes in their personal and professional lives. He is the author of five books and hundreds of articles.
David advocates the interest-based negotiation approach developed at Harvard to achieve win-win outcomes, though he can also take the gloves off and teach more hardball tactics and counter-tactics. He uses simulations, role play, skits, and interactive sessions to help participants learn and improve critical negotiating skills and behaviors. David is the author of two books on negotiation, including his latest, Win-Win: An Everyday Guide To Negotiating. He also trains in the related field of conflict management.
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, USA, David has been living in Singapore and working throughout Asia since 1999. He enjoys art, music, stock investing, the beach, red wine, chocolate, and anything Italian.
